Be An Education Advocate

A short time ago I participated in a podcast with individuals at CASA, Kane County. I learned a great deal about the incredible individuals who become CASAs (court appointed special advocates). You can hear the podcast (#35) by going to the website: www.casakanecounty.org. I came home to an email in which a colleague requested assistance with the development of a PREVENTION flyer; which brings me to the point of this post.

While researching content for the flyer, I discovere...
d that there is a "new sexual revolution". It's goal is the legalization of pedophilia. As a survivor I'm horrified. As an individual who has worked to prevent this crime, I find it appalling that there is a "movement" to make it justifiable to manipulate the mind and break the spirit of a small child to conform to the abhorrent and destructive desires of an adult unable to deny his or her choice to sexually violate a child.

No doubt there will be judges and attorneys who, having this desire, may be malleable to hearing what this "movement" has to say, and defend their right to say it. I don't deny they have the same legal rights I do. But, caregivers, make no mistake; this a heinous and crippling act. Just taking into account that the brain isn't fully formed until mid-twenties, suggesting to a child that this is a loving and appropriate behavior for an adult is unconscionable.

Once again I find myself hoping; no praying that parents are becoming educated around this topic. Prevention is at-risk when a movement toward the legalization of this crime gets more media attention than the crime itself. Parents/caregivers, unite while this is in the beginning stages. Don't allow this possibility to become a reality. Use your voice to protect your children and act to stop this "revolution" before it gains momentum. Prevent child sexual abuse through your willingness to become involved. Remember, your vote is a powerful way to use your voice. Also, get in touch with your congressman and representatives. And, at the risk of being redundant, become educated around this topic.

On my daughter Teresa's advice, here goes...

Some very exciting news! One of my books, The Doghouse Angel  (my personal story of healing and recovery from abuse) is in the process of becoming a movie. To find out more, please visit www.newhorizonfilms.com. We are in the infant stages and I'm overwhelmed at how incredably well the Director, Jeff Marsten, has captured my story.

Recently, I've decided to change my career course. While I will still present for the Stewards of Children Child Sexual Abuse Prevention program, it will be by request only. I have worked in the area of prevention for a number of years, and would like to remove myself from the heaviness of the topic of child sexual abuse and engage in lighter fare. To that end, I've decided to try my hand at children's books. I believe the time has come to take my ideas and make them realities. Of course, it is uncertain territory regarding benefactors and believers. However, I believe.

Also, I may have an additional novel or two left to write. I'll keep you posted. It helps to have creative and energetic people around me. Teresa J. Foote; creative artist and photographer, and Donovan Foote; the penultimate graphic artist. You can find them at: www.pistolheart.com, and www.donovanfoote.com. You'll think you've struck gold.
